Your Google Business Profile Is a Sales Page, Not a Sign

Last Tuesday at 6pm, a hungry customer searched for pickup near your place. Three restaurants showed up. They picked one based on the photo, the hours, and whether ordering seemed easy. Your Google Business Profile decided whether you were that restaurant or not.

Treat the listing like a sales page

A profile used to be a sign. Name, address, hours, done. Now it is a tiny storefront. Customers read it like a menu taped to a window. They look at the photos, scan a few reviews, glance at the menu, and check for a button that says Order online. If that button is missing, or it sends them to a third-party app that charges extra, you still showed up. You just did not get the order.

Four fixes for this week

  • Upload real food photos. Not stock images of burgers from 2019. A friend with a phone and a window seat can do this in 30 minutes.
  • Confirm your hours for every holiday and season. A closed-when-open listing teaches customers not to come back.
  • Post your menu as both a photo and text. Google reads the text, customers skim the photo.
  • If you run your own pickup site, link it from your profile. Do not only link to delivery apps.

That last one is the part most owners skip. They get the profile looking decent, they pick up a few reviews, and they stop. But the link in your Google Business Profile is where the search becomes an order. If the only Order option sends customers to an app that charges extra, you have done the hard work of being found and handed the order to someone else.

What to do with the ones who still call

Some will still call. But whoever picks up should do two things. Confirm pickup is on, then offer a direct link to your own ordering page before hanging up. A text with the link works. So does reading the web address slowly. Most of those callers were already half-decided. Make it easy and they order from you. Make it hard and they try the next listing.

Treat your profile like a host stand. The greeting, the menu, the next step. If any of it looks tired, fix it this week. You will not see a flood of new orders overnight. You will see a slow, steady lift in the people who actually show up. That is the part that compounds.

Start taking your own orders.

No subscription, no cut of your sales, and nothing off what you make. Create the account, add your menu, put the link on your Google listing.
